I AM Doing Something

I wonder how Habakkuk felt. Wickedness was rampant in the land, and he wondered when God would do something about it. Habakkuk wanted God to intervene and restore righteousness. God’s ways are not our ways though, as Habakkuk would soon discover.

“Look among the nations!
Be astonished! Wonder!
Because I am doing something in your days –
You would not believe if you were told.”
Habakkuk 1:5

God was planning to use a brutal invasion by the Chaldeans to work good for the people of Judah. Although this trial would not be a pleasant one, God reassured Habakkuk that He was in it.

Habakkuk decided that the best way to solve his problem was to stand on what he knew to be true about God, wait patiently for God to work, and watch for what God would say to him. He would be God’s servant, faithfully trusting in his Lord.

God is in the current circumstances circling the globe. However, as millions watch and wait to see how the coronavirus will impact their health and financial stability, the temptation to fear is prevalent.

Faith in God’s sovereign, wise, and loving hand quells fear though. Habakkuk turned his eyes upon the Creator and all He had done throughout history. Although he had to wait for “the day of distress” (Hab. 3:16) as we must do while watching a virus spread and economies crumble, Habakkuk knew he could still rejoice in the Lord. Our call is to do the same.

Though [grocery store shelves be bare,
And vitamin C back-ordered indefinitely]
Though [unable to work for pay,
Or see family and friends]
Though [sick with fever,
And coughing instead of sleeping at night]
Yet I will exult in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
The Lord God is my strength,
and He has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
And makes me walk on my high places…
