Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
1 John 2:15-16
Oh, Dear Father…
I find myself wanting to read a book, eat a variety of foods, see beautiful flowers rather than the weeds and dying plants growing in my own backyard, and walk further than the distance from my door to my mailbox. As you know, sometimes these desires feel so strong that I become frustrated as I covet what others have and are able to do. Please forgive me for loving the world. I know I have Your love living in me, but I also still have the lusts of my flesh. You help me overcome these lusts as You show me the things that are from You. I delight in knowing that one day I will be with You in heaven. If there are books to read there, I will be able to see the words. If my body requires sustenance in the form of food, it will be available in plenty and perfectly designed for my body. If there are flowers to see, they will be where I am and their shapes and colors will be candy to my eyes. However far the distance is that I need to travel, I will be able to do so without tiring, as my body will never wear out. Best of all, I will experience Your presence in a way that will fulfill my deepest longings. Please help me to patiently wait and remember that this time will come after my pilgrim days on earth, and it will last forever.
In Jesus’ name I pray… Amen.
